Old Fulton Fish Market — New York City

Print from an original Pen & Ink Drawing by Edmund Burke

A portrait of old New York, where architecture, commerce, and memory converge.

Once a bustling center of New York City's waterfront trade, the historic Fulton Fish Market was a place of extraordinary character. Its familiar lettering, industrial architecture, and proximity to the Brooklyn Bridge made it an unmistakable part of Lower Manhattan's landscape.

This original pen-and-ink drawing captures a remarkable meeting of two New York landmarks: the monumental stone towers and delicate suspension cables of the Brooklyn Bridge rising above the bold, weathered facade of the old Fulton Fish Market.

Rendered with intricate crosshatching, expressive linework, and a strong architectural perspective, the composition celebrates the textures and contrasts of a city constantly reinventing itself. The precision of the bridge's masonry stands against the industrial simplicity of the market building, preserving a scene that belongs to an earlier chapter of New York life.

There is a certain nostalgia to this view—not simply for the buildings themselves, but for the generations of New Yorkers whose daily lives unfolded beneath them.

This fine art print is reproduced from my original pen-and-ink drawing and is part of my growing collection of New York City architectural scenes.
