The Panthers of Prospect Park | Brooklyn, New York

Original Pen & Ink Artwork by Edmund Burke

Standing proudly above the entrance to Brooklyn's beloved Prospect Park, this magnificent panther is one of a pair of sculptural sentinels that have long welcomed visitors to this historic New York City landmark.

Perched high upon its stately stone pedestal and framed by the delicate silhouettes of bare winter branches, the panther commands attention with an air of quiet strength and dignity.

This finely detailed pen-and-ink rendering celebrates the architectural elegance and enduring character of Brooklyn's treasured park. Intricate crosshatching, carefully balanced contrasts, and delicate linework bring the panther's sculptural form to life, while the graceful winter branches provide a striking counterpoint to the solidity of the stone.

A Celebration of Brooklyn's Heritage

Part of my growing collection of original New York City pen-and-ink drawings, this piece reflects my appreciation for the historic landmarks, architectural details, and often-overlooked corners that give the city its extraordinary character.

Whether you're a lifelong Brooklyn resident, a former New Yorker, or someone who simply loves the enduring beauty of the city's parks and monuments, this artwork offers a meaningful connection to a special place.

Each image in the series begins as an original pen-and-ink drawing by me and is reproduced as a high-quality art print. Each print is signed by the artist.

The classic black-and-white palette works beautifully in both contemporary and traditional interiors and pairs naturally with other pieces in the New York City Pen & Ink Series. Display it on its own or combine it with other NYC scenes to create a distinctive gallery wall.
It also makes a thoughtful gift for a New Yorker, Prospect Park Park lover, architecture enthusiast, or anyone with a special connection to New York City.
