A stunning tropical shell displayed on a handmade glossy black stand with a brass plaque engraved with the Latin name for the species that called this shell its home.

The Muricanthus nigritus, commonly known as the Black Murex or Black-and-White Murex, is a striking marine gastropod belonging to the family Muricidae. Renowned for its bold coloration and sculptural form, this species is a favorite among shell collectors and coastal decorators.

The Black Murex's coloration and spiny texture make it a standout display piece and when mounted on a glossy black stand with a brass plaque, it serves as an elegant centerpiece, showcasing the natural beauty of marine life.

Shell Description and Habitat
Black murex shells typically range from 2.9" (7.5 cm) to 7.9" (20 cm) in length.

The shells of young Murex are predominantly white, developing black or dark brown spires as they mature, resulting in a dramatic contrast. The shells feature short spines around the body whorl and spire, with a porcelaneous white aperture.

This species is found throughout the Gulf of California and along the Pacific coast from Magdalena Bay, Baja California Sur, to Guatemala.
